หลินเจิงทำงานสืบสวนอาชญากรรมให้กับกรมตำรวจในฐานะรองผู้บัญชาการตำรวจ เขาได้รับหน้าที่ดูแลคดีการเสียชีวิตในบ้านพักตากอากาศของคนตระกูลจ้าว โดยผู้ตายคือจ้าวเผิงเฉิง และผู้ต้องสงสัยก็คือจ้าวเผิงเซียง งานในครั้งนี้เต็มไปด้วยเงื่อนงำและยากลำบากเมื่อผู้ตายเกี่ยวข้องไปถึงตัวของอัยการ ในที่สุดหลินเจิงก็จำเป็นต้องขอความช่วยเหลือจากกระทรวงความมั่นคงและทีมสืบสวนลับเพื่อคลี่คลายคดียุ่งยากนี้
